It felt almost as if we ourselves were in graves, for the deep silence and Ghoul's obvious penetrating misery. But that wasn't permanent. The others had long since woken up, seeing as how it was half past eleven in the morning now, and Jet still hadn't even moved. This was getting ridiculous. "Why isn't Jet waking up?" I groaned in despair.

"He couldn't sleep last night," Poison said softly. "Saw him go outside." He cursed. "Hope he's not coming down with something too." His eyes strayed to Fun Ghoul.

After the drama about Fun Ghoul, I gotta admit that -- on the surface -- the day went pretty fine, and we managed to slaughter a good many Dracs without further injury to ourselves. But, unfortunately, I was distracted the whole damn time, by two troubling thoughts: one more major and one more minor.

The minor distraction was that, at the times when my mind wasn't overly preoccupied with the major thing, my thoughts rested on Leah, the amazing daughter of the rather-less-than-amazing man sworn to exterminate me. Killjoys Oneshot -- Created in His ImageI flattened myself against the side of the boulder, my heart pounding in my chest. There was one Draculoid left -- just one enemy left to ghost. I tightened my sweating grip on my silver decorated ray gun, forcing my adrenaline-pumped body to remain still. If I leapt up now, I would no doubt be dusted out immediately. Firefights require thinking, as I had discovered in the past seven years that had passed since the Fires of 2012. Damn, that disaster had caught me very young.

You know the feeling you get when you’re running so hard you can’t breathe? And in that moment you swear you’re about to die? Frank is in the sub-urbs when someone pulls him in an alley and puts a knife on his throat.

She braced one hand against the back of the booth, placed her other over her vibrating chest and lowered her pig-tailed head, shaking it back and forth, causing ebony bangs to fall into her face, shielding her eyes. What the hell just happened?
